Not too sweet and so smooth—the best way to top a chocolate cake.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 5 Tbs flour
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  • Place milk and flour in a small sauce pan. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
  • When it has thickened, remove from heat and add vanilla. Whisk well.
  • Place butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl or your stand mixture. Whip until light and fluffy.
  • When the milk and flour mixture has cooled, add it to the butter and sugar mixture. Whip until well combined, remembering to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  • Spread over chocolate cupcakes or cake and get ready for the most fabulous frosting ever.
