Red Oak, also known as North Red Oak is native to North America. Various parts of this tree proved to be quite useful to several Native American groups. The bark however, was said to be employed by the Seneca as an astringent.
In addition to its astringent action, the Ojibwa Indians used Red Oak Bark for heart and bronchial health. The Eclectics, a group of 19th century physicians who practiced an herb-based approach, reported its beneficial action on the skin & kidneys.
