Male Fern is a hardy plant found throughout Europe as well as parts of North and South America. The rhizomes or rootstock is usually harvested in the fall, dried and then added to external skin preparations.
Male Fern was used since the 1st century in ancient Greece. Today, it is only recommended for external use, preferably under the direction of an experienced practitioner.
Common Names: Aspidium filix-mas, Bear’s Paw, Dryopteris filix-mas, Shield Fern.
